So as you know kids, our board will be upgraded from its current phpbb version 2.x up to version 3. The main changes will be extra security in the background however there will be a few extra mods too... more info on them as soon as the new board goes live.

The lovely people at Freeforums have told me that:

*Portals will not be transfered to V3 as we currently don't have a portal mod installed. (Ah well, no big loss)
*As html code is disabled in V3, any html code from your V2 forum will be converted into text. (we don't use HTML, so no change there)
*The upgrade won't happen immediately, and may take a couple days to process. All upgrades are processed in the order in which they are requested. Our system will email you when the upgrade is completed. (nuff said!)

The option to upgrade was given to me quite a while ago but I decided to wait a while so as to allow any bugs to be fixed before we dived in. I suspect some of us will still experience a bug or two to begin with but it should all be ironed out in no time.

The main problem I suspect will be cookie related as the new board will have a much more beefed up security system. So if there are any problems with your logon over the next few days, I'd advise you to delete any forum cookies you have and log back on again.

Indeed. This may take some time to get used to and stuff, however in theory it now sends you a PM on you birthday... which is nice!

i've also been having some problem loading pages. every so often i simply can't click through. this page was completely blocked off to me for a while just now. i've had to leave the site, do something in another site and then come back in order to access it. but i could access other threads from the new posts list. there doesn't seem to be any reason for the ones it's blocking me from.

Well its a new toy but I'll go through the instructions and see what else I can turn on to help us all.

On a slightly good note, this isn't the only template we can use. If you click on your User Control Panel (top of the page on the left), then on Board Preferences, scroll down and you should be able to find a dropdown for "My board style". I've installed a few extrs styles, one of which might be better for your PC or your eyes.

i've just been having a play with some of hte themes and the "Vista" one puts avatars etc back on the left hand side for those who don't like change
